USDA reorganization continues Trump assault on federal workforce

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has already been decimated by DOGE and mass resignations, with some 15,000 people leaving the agency. The reorganization plan announced by Secretary Brooke Rollins today continues the Trump administration’s assault on the federal workforce broadly and USDA in particular. A similar effort at USDA in the previous Trump administration led to the loss of half of the staff in two divisions, and we can expect the same this time.  

USDA staff implement critical food and nutrition programs that support farmers, feed the hungry, promote nutrition and health, and keep our food safe. This ill-conceived reorganization plan does not align with a desire to make Americans healthy that the administration is touting; it will do just the opposite—it will make Americans hungrier and sicker.
