Statement of CSPI Director of Legislative Affairs Philip Kahn-Pauli

CSPI was quite surprised to see our recent statement condemning the current lapse in Congressional appropriations appear on the White House’s new “government shutdown clock.”* Such an inclusion is a clear misattribution of our organization’s nonpartisan perspective on the shutdown. As mentioned in our statement, we believe that the longer this shutdown lasts, the further and more significantly it risks impacts to the nation’s food system. CSPI has requested that the White House remove our name and statement from their webpage. So far, they have not responded to our reasonable request. Further, the website is also inaccurate. CSPI does not support a "clean CR." Ending the shutdown depends on ensuring that Americans do not face increasing healthcare costs due to the end of key Affordable Care Act tax credits. We do not wish to be included on such a list.
