Health advocates call on Trump administration to finalize proposals for transparency in alcohol labeling

Government AccountabilityAugust 15, 2025

Sign-on comments on Proposed Rule: Major Food Allergen Labeling for Wines, Distilled Spirits, and Malt Beverages

The undersigned organizations call on the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to finalize the proposed rule mandating on-package labeling major food allergens and to propose a rule requiring full labeling of all ingredients. These rules will be a step forward, as current alcohol labels do not provide the information that consumers with food allergies need to make informed purchasing and consumption decisions. Letter to OMB and OIRA on Alcohol Labeling

From Congress members Jan Schakowsky, Rosa L. DeLauro, and Shri Thanedar: "We are writing this letter to show our support for the Treasury Department’s initiative to improve transparency in alcoholic beverage labeling through three regulations (Proposed rules RIN 11513-AC93 and RIN 11513-AC94, and Prerule RIN 11513-AC95) and to urge the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to prioritize reviewing these three rules and release them before the end of this presidential term. 'Empowering all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices' is a key pillar of the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, and publishing these rules will be an important part of the administration’s legacy."
