Sara John, PhD
Deputy Director
Sara John (she/her/hers) has worked for more than 15 years to create a healthier, more equitable U.S. food system through impactful policy design, corporate accountability, and research and evaluation. As Deputy Director at CSPI, she leads our Healthy Marketplace team that strives to create a physical and digital food environment where healthy and sustainable food is available, accessible, and affordable to all people regardless of where they live, eat, and shop. This includes CSPI's food and beverage taxes, food marketing, healthy retail, industry accountability, and sustainability work.
Prior experience
Prior to CSPI, Sara worked at the Partnership for a Healthier America. She has conducted extensive research on making healthier choices easier in the retail food environment and through nutrition assistance programs. She has a PhD in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition from Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, an MS in Education from Johns Hopkins University, and a BS in Biology and BA in Public Policy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
