Canadian Scholars’ Press Inc. (CSPI) was founded in 1986 and is one of Canada’s leading independent academic publishing companies. We remain one of a small number of firms publishing texts and scholarly works of particular interest to the Canadian market. Our academic publishing program creates books that make a genuine and lasting contribution to the evolution of a wide variety of disciplines. We seek to foreground the work of leading Canadian scholars as well as up-and-coming academics, always paying special attention to editorial detail and quality of presentation. CSPI is committed to maintaining our reputation for excellence in scholarship, research, and education, and we are proud to be celebrating 25 years of publishing.
Women’s Press, Canada’s oldest English-language feminist publisher, was founded under collective ownership in 1972. It became an imprint of Canadian Scholars’ Press in 2000 and since then CSPI has upheld the press’s commitment to conserving a space in the publishing industry devoted to the circulation of women’s ideas, through high-quality feminist writing that contributes to the cultural and social identity of Canada. Under the Women’s Press imprint we produce texts that can be used in teaching a variety of social science subjects.
Canadian Scholars’ Press gratefully acknowledges financial support for our publishing activities from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Government of Canada through the Canada Book Fund.
“CSPI has always been a friend to me. A solid publication record with titles both informative and provocative has made it easy to adopt CSPI books for courses over the years. Better still, CSPI is small enough to provide prompt and courteous service when book orders or desk copies need to be rushed through by ‘yesterday.’ Best of all, I’ve enjoyed dealing with sales associates and book representatives who have proven unfailingly helpful and friendly. So congratulations, CSPI, on 25 years of first-class publishing in Canada. With your track record, another 25 years of success will be a cinch.” — Augie Fleras, Department of Sociology and Legal Studies, University of Waterloo
“The high calibre of the CSPI editors and the extensive consultation process with scholars in the field result in books that offer a high-quality response to teaching needs.” — Lori G. Beaman, Department of Classics and Religious Studies, University of Ottawa
“My experience with CSPI has been highly rewarding. The editorial, production, and sales/marketing teams are professional, knowledgeable, and supportive of their authors. I am impressed with the quality of their work.” — Barbara Mitchell, Department of Sociology and Department of Gerontology, Simon Fraser University
